Headshot for Udit Sood, Board Member for the San Fransisco Gay Men's Chorus

Udit (he/him) moved from New Delhi, India, to the Bay Area in 2014.

Udit is a litigator who focuses his practice on complex commercial federal disputes, particularly high-stakes intellectual property matters. He started his career representing clients before the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court of India, and then, following a master’s in Law, Science & Technology from Stanford Law School, joined the DC-headquartered legal powerhouse, Covington & Burling.

When not defending clients in billion-dollar cases, Udit likes to advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and guide tech startups. Currently, Udit is petitioning the Indian judiciary to recognize marriage equality under Indian civil laws, and is advising BeagleTM, a startup developing advanced AI-powered legal software.

Besides being a lawyer, advocate, and tech enthusiast, Udit is a baritone and a belter. He joined the SFGMC in 2016, and regards the experience and the community as transformative. “San Francisco would not be home today,” he maintains, “if it weren’t for my chorus.”

Why I joined the Board:

SFGMC rescues lives through music. I wanted to join the brilliant, devoted individuals on this board to help evaluate opportunities for the chorus to broaden its reach and impact. It is important to me that, in making decisions, the chorus consider all aspects of our ambitious mission statement, including its opening words (“To lead”) as well as its concluding words (have an impact at home “and around the world.”).
