SING FOR THE CURE
On Thursday, October 30, singers and orchestral musicians will be joining members of the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus for a performance of Sing for the Cure at our home, the Chan National Queer Arts Center, in a benefit concert dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer! This groundbreaking work has special significance for SFGMC, as it was originally commissioned by our Conductor Laureate, Dr. Tim Seelig, during his tenure leading the Turtle Creek Chorale.
Kris Roberts, narrator and featured soloist
We’re thrilled to welcome Kris Roberts as narrator and featured soloist for the event! The artist and actor has appeared on Broadway in Tootsie, Sunset Boulevard, and Beautiful, and toured the country in Company.
Now celebrating its 25th anniversary, Sing for the Cure takes audiences on a deeply personal and emotional journey through 10 musical movements interwoven with compelling spoken narration designed to inspire and educate. Written collaboratively by 10 American composers, the work shines a light on the importance of early detection and the ongoing need for research and support through the stories of individuals, families, caregivers, and medical professionals.
A portion of the net proceeds from the concert will go to Bay Area Cancer Connections.
Why see this at The Chan?
The experience delivers a glamorous cabaret setup, golden lighting, and being close to the performers. Our bar and lounge, Pansy’s at The Chan, will be offering chilled bottles of champagne, signature drinks, and plenty of nonalcoholic selections. Whether you're here with your mother or your chosen family, this is an experience designed for you to indulge, connect, and to celebrate our collective queerness!
