SELINA SUN
Selina Sun has been a thread, connecting the San Francisco community in various ways from politics to civics to music. A San Francisco native, Selina found her passion for music, and specifically voice, from the young age of three when she discovered the beloved classic Disney princess songs. Discovering her fervent passion for singing, she studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music’s preparatory division, learning how to hone her skill as a singer. This led her to many other accomplishments outside of California, including being accepted in the Massachusetts State Choir in high school, and receiving other musical accolades during her high school years.
While attending UC Santa Cruz, studying Music with an Emphasis in Vocal Performance, she directed the school’s first female A Cappella group, sharing her love of music with others. She also taught after-school music classes at a local middle school and coached other aspiring singers while in college. She firmly believes in the power of song and that music is the universal language that connects us all.
As a San Franciscan, Selina has dedicated her career to public service. Serving under Mayors Ed Lee, Mark Farrell, London Breed, and current Mayor Daniel Lurie; and Former Speaker of the House, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, Selina works to ensure San Francisco is and remains a leading city in the nation in all facets. Outside of her public service, she also serves as a Board Member of the Alice B. Toklas LGBTQ Democratic Club and President of the Edwin M. Lee Asian Pacific Democratic Club, where she works to advocate for San Francisco communities.
Selina service to the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus has united her love of helping others with her passion for music. Her connection to the Chorus began when attended the 2019 Crescendo Gala, where she was inspired by the work, the Chorus performances, and special guest, Kristin Chenoweth! She was honored to be asked to co-chair the 2022 Crescendo Gala, and has loved all that the Chorus has done since.
In her personal time, she still sings with various a capella groups in San Francisco and has recorded her own album, and is (slowly) working on a second one. She hopes to continue finding ways to connect her passions through her work with the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus, to continue delivering the message that music can open our hearts and connect us all.
