Holidays in San Francisco: festively decorated cable cars, ice skating in Union Square and the uproariously hilarious antics and stunningly beautiful music of the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus. It is the “alternative” holiday experience only available in the City By The Bay. Highlights of the holiday show are brand new pieces by Broadway and Cabaret composers Ernie Lijoi and Lawrence Rush: “Merry Everything” and and the charming, hilarious, and pithy “Merry Christmas, I Win.” Also, this season the Chorus presents an incredible world premiere by award-winning composer Laura Karpman set to a text written by best-selling author Rebecca Walker honoring the role mothers play in our lives – especially at the holidays.

It was 40 years ago when author Armistead Maupin penned the very first article bringing the colorful life and times of San Francisco to the entire world. Armistead joins us in an evening full of stories and music about our home and its heroes. The evening includes excerpts from “Naked Man,” the groundbreaking multi-movement piece originally performed by the Chorus in 1995 that chronicles the lives and lives of the men of SFGMC. “Tales Of Our City: Our Lives, Our Heroes” presents a world premiere by Mari Valverde, one of the world’s up-and-coming transgender women composers. We will also be joined by the Bay Area Rainbow Symphony.
