Embarking on a new journey is always exciting for many reasons. It also brings with it a fair amount of nervousness about the unknown. Thus it was with my first concert as the Artistic Director of the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus.
It was an auspicious beginning with a full stage of 250 anxious men and a sold-out hall seating 2,500 patrons full of anticipation.
One can never guarantee magic. You simply prepare and then hope. Magic happened for all of us in the hall that night. The words sprang to life. The singers connected with the music and with the audience. It was a night we will never forget.
Our hope is that listening to this live recording, you will be transported back to that special moment and take your seat in the middle of Davies Symphony Hall on April 21, 2011. It is our greatest joy to share these moments with you as we begin this journey together.
